McLaren Full name: Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. The silver machines on the race track that, based on recent years are likely to be somewhere near front. They’re easy to recognise with the lovely silver scheme being ruined somewhat by the day-glo Vodafone sponsorship. World Champion Lewis Hamilton and young Finn Heikki Kovalainen will be piloting this silver beast, aiming to at least repeat 2008 with a drivers title, if not the contructors one too. |
Ferrari Full name: Scuderia Ferrari Malboro: the most classic and famous racing car on the track, any track in fact. Easily recognisable with it’s completely red colour scheme. Ferrari is the most successful team in the history of the sport and is the most passionate of the top teams. Moody Finn Kimi Raikkoen and happy chappy Felipe Massa are the drivers. |
BMW Full name: BMW Sauber F1 – the most consistant team on the track. Consistant in that they’ve improved every year and won a race in 2008. 2009 could see a serious challenge for the top spot by this team. The cars are blue and white and driven by the ever popular Robert Kubica and the unlucky Nick Heidfeld |
Renault Full name: ING Renault F1 – the french outfit with a decidely dodgy colour scheme. Another ever improving team with Spaniard Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jnr. Alonso is the best driver in F1, Piquet has a long learning curve before he takes to the curves and makes any impression. |
Toyota Full name: Panasonic Toyota F1 Team – this Japanese team has enough money to splash around than any other but they’ve yet to make an impression and for the nth year in a row they are threatening to challenge for victory – lets hope they do. Drivers are new boy Timo Glock and ladies favourite Jarno Trulli. |
Toro Rosso Full name: Scuderia Toro Rosso Ferrari – this is the B-Team of Red Bull, based in Italy having taken over the old Minardi team. In 2008 they surprised all with their performances and even won at Monza. Expect more of the same in 09. Easily recognisable being dark blue with a massive red bull painted on it. They have two drivers called Seb, Mr Buemi and Mr Bourdais both who have something to prove this year. |
Red Bull Full name: Red Bull Racing – the main Red Bull owned team and despite being owned and supported from soft-drink sales this team has improved no end and with Sebastien Vettel and Mark Webber at the wheel this year they could be a regular appearance on the podium. Pretty easy to spot on the track with the Red Bull logos all over it. Quite pretty though. |
Williams Full name: AT&T Williams F1 – one of classic British teams and a fond favourite in the UK – a team that shouldn’t be so often near the back. Williams’ cars are dark blue for 2009 and look fantastically sleek. Drivers for 09 are Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima, two quick drivers that if the team produce a top car are capable of being up the front. |

Force India Full name: Force India Mercedes (or McForce) – 2009 will be Force Indias second year of F1 and you’d be a fool to write them off as being back markers forever. Extremely passionate and with the addition of McLaren technology this passion could be turned into a podium for the drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil. The car has ‘Fly Kingfisher’ written all over it and matches the colours of the Indian flag. |
