The latest on Felipe is that all brain scans have come back clear and he’s currently under an artificial coma to aid his recovery according to the doctors “He’s woken up [from sedation] more often and is able to communicate actively,” - however, in the last few hours it has emerged that his left eye is damaged to an extent that the hospital has said that it’s too early to tell if he’ll be able to race again.  A full press conference is scheduled for later this evening.

It has been frightening week for motorsport with rising star Henry Surtees passing away and now Felipe in a ’serious, but stable’ condition in hospital.  On the back of these recent incidents, F1 is now launching it’s own investigation to see how helmets can be improved with Bernie Ecclestone saying they are going to look at other sports such as ice hockey.  It’s a common belief that thankfully Massa, like the rest of the F1 grid is using the latest carbon-fibre helmets which are much stronger than helmets used pre 2006 and it’s because of this that the outcome wasn’t much worse.

Aside from Massa’s incident, the Hungarian grand prix again proved to it’s critics that the track can produce an exciting race.  There were some awesome overtakes and some controversy, but the stewards seemed to get it right… right, except for Renault’s penalty.

The French team’s race suspension from Valencia in a months time is the current hot topic of debate, with the points being raised that it’s madness to stop Fernando taking part, in terms of attendance – his famous army of blue and yellow fans are hardly going to turn up to a grand prix in their hordes with their beloved Alonso not even being there.

There’s a fantastic theory for the European Grand Prix – Renault suspended, Alonso wants to drive in front of his fans, Ferrari a man down, rumours of a 2010 contract for Alonso and Ferrari…. it all adds up, sadly it will amount to nothing but it’s a nice idea…  on a slightly more realistic note there’s a chance that Renault will take part in Valencia – their appeal wont be heard for a while because of the European holidays, so there’s a possibility that they may take part and serve a race suspension later at Monza – that would help Bernie’s cash flow from Valencia.  There’s another rumour that Michael Schumacher may make a return to fill in for Felipe – do you think that’s likely?

As for Jenson Button, the reports are coming in that he’s “worried” and “fears” the closing pack with his lead now ‘only’ being 18.5 points.  The one thing he must be pleased with is that BrawnGP now have four weeks to get their motor back to it’s dominating pace and it’s good news for him that another team is now capable of winning races in 2009.  As long as Button finishes on the podium in the remaining seven races and the wins are shared around Hamilton, Webber and Vettel (and maybe even Barrichello) then he’ll still win the drivers championship.  Should he be that worried – sure it’s far from being in the bag, but he’s still the bookies’ favourite.  Either way, it seems his relationship with the model girlfriend is going well – according to her blog, she’s been enjoying a full English brekky.

Red Bull are very chuffed with Hungary, despite Vettel’s DNF in Hungary – they’re happy that McLaren and Ferrari have made steps forward and also Williams – they may sound arrogant (or bullish) but Red Bull are confident they can dominate and having these other cars between themselves and Brawn will only benefit their championship aspirations.  Overall, the team seem most excited about having a two week break from F1 – their press release used the word ‘yippee’ – thats why we love Red Bull Racing!

Of course Badger wishes Felipe a speedy recovery and hopefully to see him back in an F1 car, Luca Di Montezemolo visited him today and was optimistic that he will fully recover.  If you would like to send a gift or you wishes to Felipe then you should read this – we are! Although we obviously wish Felipe a super fast recovery, what are motorheads thoughts on a replacement driver for the rest of the season? I imeadiately thought of bringing Ol’Shuey back in the hot seat – How cool could that be pitted against todays young bucks?
As long as it didn’t become a trend, and suddenly you get Piquet senior replacing Piquet Junior etc, although didn’t there used to be race series for all these diehard retired racers with Fitipaldi

Sadly, Willi Weber (great name!) has confirmed Schumi won’t be replacing Massa, and he’s Michael’s manager so all the hopeful reports of his return are sadly false – rubbish, it would be ace to see how he’d fair…

Maybe give Rossi his chance to prove his worth on four wheels – that would be fab.

Anyone else know of anyone – or will it be one of Ferrari’s reserve drivers – Luca Badoer or Marc Gene??

Te report i read was that Wili Weber said Schumacher would consider standing-in if he was asked. But he’s not going to step forward and volunteer for it.
From Felipe’s point of view Schuey is the best possible replacement for him. Because if Ferrari get some young new hotshoe in and he turns out to be great then he could steal Felipe’s seat for next year. Whereas if Michael stands in for a few races, he’s not going to come back and Massa will still have his race seat next year (providing his health returns to normal).
Plus think about how much publicity it would generate for Ferrari.

There isn’t really a huge choice of topline drivers, i think Luca and Marc are a bit too far over the hill to be of any use to the team. The only thing they can possibly do is borrow someone else’s test driver.
All fingers point to Liuzzi. :)

It’s official, Schumacher is returning to F1. Being reported by the AP, etc. All major trustworthy networks! Oh my!
