The rumours have finally been confirmed as fact.  Fernando Alonso, the 2005 and 2006 World Champion has been confirmed by Ferrari to be driving one of their red cars in 2010, replacing Kimi Raikkonen in the process.  It’s something that Fernando fans have been wanting for a while… let’s just hope he has a more successful time there than he did with his spell at McLaren…

Autosport has the full details here and Badger’s roundtable will be putting their thoughts on this later in the week, watch this space.  In the meantime – what do you make of the news?

Very disappointed. Not in the news, but the fact there’s a spelling/semantics error in the last line above the photo.

“let’s just hope he has a more successful time THEIR than he did with his spell at McLaren…”

It should quite obviousley be THERE. Whoever wrote this article; Can I have you’re job? Because you’re not doing it properly.

And before someone picks up on the misuse of “You’re” in the last line of my comment, that’s the joke.

Was it really that difficult to understand with the spelling error? Go to James Allen’s site, you’ll have a field day there, lots of spelling and grammatical errors to point out smart alec, i mean that’s way more important than F1 news isn’t it?

I don’t really have a big problem with Fernando joining Ferrari since i don’t think he was entirely clean in Crashgate, and he definately wasn’t clean in Spygate, so i’ll quite happily adapt to hoping he loses. :D
And it means it gets my favourite driver out of the red at last. Hooray!

Seriously though and all prejudice aside, Ferrari do need a driver who can lead, the team was built around Schumacher controlling what the team did and they’ve been a little at sea without someone who can do that. Alonso’s the best guy for the job, thouh i think he’ll be surprised at Felipe’s pace and won’t have it all his own way.

  • My deepest apologies CK, this article was rushed off the press as soon as we heard the news. The excitement obviously took over and I made a rare error – think you’ll find that the rest of this webzine is nothing but the highest standard of English.

Thanks for reading Badger though – if you want a job then get in touch using the address editor [at] f1badger.com.

    Cheers.

Now thats a deadly combination for sure.. and we’ll hopefully see more on track action than off track ones in the coming years.. i don care if they dropped the rest of the races this year and start the next one already. :) cant wait!

This sure is a golden age for drivers. To my mind there are 6-7 potential winners of next year’s championship…we’re used to expecting the winner from one of four.
As to Alonso; he’s a real enigma to me. Wonderful driver over race distance, and consistent, of course. Usually very eloquent and mannered when interviewed-dignified on the podium etc.
And yet….the stories…and now with Ferrari?!?! Well, the prancing horse seems to have tried clearing its stable of muck recently- it may be time to retrieve the shovel.

As to CK-There’s little that annoys me more when reading a blog than an idiot who gets pedantic and just HAS to comment on an obvious human error.

I’ve found the writers of this website to be excellent-and it just seems sad to me that so few F1 fans seem to be aware of this little gem. Keep up the good work Badgers!

It doesn’t take much for me to dislike Ferrari, and like Dave H, I’m glad that Raikkonen will no longer be there so that I can get back to my full anti-red prejudice…Its never really been the drivers so much as the organisation and (yes, its stereotype time here) the fans…ask me why, and it would take me pages to say why I dislike Ferrari fans…but suffice to say, Alonso will bring with him a whole army of fans who will fit into the Ferrari mold perfectly.

Well, the waiting is finally over, and it will be interesting to watch this space in 12 months time and see how the love affair is going. I see in the official FERRARI statement, that they are looking forward to ALONSO as he is a team player.

Perhaps they should look back at the McLaren saga, and the sour grapes comments by Alonso about RENAULT in the period that he drove for them. Personally, I couldn’t care less about Alonso, and now, will be following Massa with more interest.

    Interesting times indeed.
