It has been announced that Timo Glock will be taking up residence at the Manor team from 2010 after his current team, Toyota, pulled out of Formula 1 with immediate effect.

It'll be more like P20 for Glock for a while yet

It’s a bit of a coup for the Manor team, but a heck of a backwards step for talented Timo.  He finished 10th in the Drivers’ standings even though his car was unspectacular and he missed the last two races due to injury.  Not too shabby at all.  But Glock will have to put any championship hopes on hold for some time while Manor and all the other new teams ‘get up to speed’.

It’s the sensible thing to do. Other teams are more likely to notice you if you’re competing in F1 rather than sitting on the sidelines. And Timo’s a good racer who is deserving of a place in the sport. This is good news!

Agreed, Dave. I think it’s brilliant on Glock’s part, as he is basically going to have a team built around him. That’s a hell of a lot better than playing second fiddle to Kubica over at Renault, which may or may not exist by the end of the year, anyway.

  • Yeah, it’s good news for all involved. Having a team built around you is every racers dream and with a Virgin title sponsorship deal imminent, I’d say Glock mas made a very lucrative deal. Those P1s might not be so far away. We shall see.

Probably a good move for a decent enough racer like Timo. Better a poor car than no car at all – he’s been there once before remember. If Manor turn out to be the best of the new boys I guess anything above P20 is a result. Long way back from his recent P2 though.
